CALCANEAL BONE TUMORS

WHAT ARE CALCANEAL BONE TUMORS?

Occasionally heel pain can be due to a soft tissue mass within the heel bone. These masses can consist of blood, fluid, fatty tissue, and spongy tissue. Rarely cancerous tumors can also be found. These tumors can be asymptomatic. Pain is usually a result of the tumor’s size. Pain can be present with activity and rest (usually at night). These tumors can also cause fracture to the heel bone.

TREATMENT:

These tumors can be diagnosed on imaging studies and biopsies. A painful tumor/cyst can be surgically treated with excision and curettage of the affected tissue with bone grafting.
